A message from Jyri

As master Rockwell Powers mentioned in his blog-ism, "New Members/Good Luck to Jyri and Evan", I have indeed left the States to ca$h in on my studies and am, of course, pursuing my ever-present, never faltering musical interests. When RP said that it seems that I always have a new project, he isn't kidding - my mind tends to wander a lot when I'm inspired, and there are, indeed, a great bevy of musical ventures I aim to partake in, when the time comes, of course. Right now I am focusing on two, namely: New Origin (alternative rock/industrial/progressive - not really Metal, RP - *smiley*) and Right Of The Master (progressive jazzy black/death/doom metal). I am more focused at the moment on the former, but will gradually gather the pieces together with the metal band (RotM) as well and actually record something.

So... New Origin...

n.O, to continue cryptically abbreviating everything imaginable, is a band I was in before leaving for the US. In the summer of '07, we began work on our first EP, for which the final guitars were recorded mere days before I was booked to fly out of Finland. Short story... even shorter: the EP is finished after meticulous recording and mixing and organizing busy schedules and bassists living abroad. The entirety is up for free download in the appropriately titled music section on our website (http://www.neworiginband.com), along with a promo single track "Liquid Courage". Check it out(!) and add us on MySpace or Facebook, or both.

We're currently in the process of writing new material, finding a bassist, booking shows, and sealing that coveted record deal.

I suppose that's enough marketing for now.

I wish the best of luck to the new incarnation of 10&C, which appears to be a splendid one; Kenny is a beast on the gitbox and Jon is a creative bastard. I rabidly look forward to whatever they put out. It even strikes me with an inkling of jealousy that I am not able to be a part of this incarnation, but, life tends to move people around to strange places and in even stranger ways. I'm fortunate and proud to have been a part in creating the 10&C machine, and hope that the concept lives on and grows. Speaking of which I have another side project in mind. It's...---

With utmost regard and greetings of rocking onward,
Jyri

Inauguration Party!!!

Photobucket

On January 20, the night of President Obama's Inauguration, we played at the Hi-Dive in fremont with live band Vunt Foom and emcees Diztortion, I Adjust, and Ra Scion (of common market). To sum up, this show was fuckin rad. Usually when we open shows the venue isnt full because a lot of people just wanna see the opener, but due to (i'm assuming) the festive feel of the evening, the bar was packed for our set. We turned in our best show to date, and had a damn good time doing so. It was our first time opening for Vunt Foom, and they are something special. A 7 (or 8?) piece jazz/hip-hop band, they provided the perfect backing to up and coming Seattle emcees (and the homies) Diztortion and I adjust. Their set with Seattle legend Ra Scion was, and quote me, one of the freshest hip-hop sets i have ever seen. It was my second time opening for him and its a real privileged to open for an emcee who has been a favorite of mine since the first Common Market project came out. We hope to rock again soon with Vunt Foom, and hopefully come back to the hi-dive, which is a great spot for live music.

New Members/Good Luck to Jyri and Evan

We are welcoming two new musicians to the band, Kenny Lu and Jon Stefan. Kenny Lu will be our new guitarist and Jon will be playing both bass and guitar. Kenny is from Renton and is a student at UW, and Jon is from Gig Harbor, now living in Tacoma. Both are extremely creative and add a lot to our live set and will be writing much of the our new music as we prepare to record a studio album this spring/summer.
The reason for the new members is loss of original members- Jyri graduated and moved back to his native Finland to cash in on his American education and pursue his career with his bands in Finland. It seems every time I talk to him he has a new project, but I believe the one he is most focussed on his metal band, New Origin (www.neworginband.com). Our bassist , Evan, will be studying in Morocco for the next 5 months, and will be rejoining the band when he returns.
